Coenzyme 10 and its Beneficial Effects for the Skin

When it comes to important enzymes for the human metabolism, very few are as relevant, and yet as little known as the Coenzyme Q10. The Coenzyme Q10 is very important in the production of energy within the body, which is further evidenced by the great concentrations in which it is found in parts of the body that require constant volumes of energy, like the liver and the heart do, for example.

Furthermore, the Coenzyme Q10 is known for its surprising ability to reduce cholesterol levels and blood pressure, which makes it an even greater ally of the heart, since these are two of the ailments that affect it the most. But beside that, the Coenzyme Q10 is also quite beneficial in other areas as well, such as helping lose weight, fighting Parkinson disease and improving blood pressure even when it reaches high levels.

However, the area in which the Coenzyme Q10 is gaining more and more recognition as of late is in the skin care area, and more specifically in facial skin treatments. The reason for this is that the Coenzyme Q10 is extremely rich in antioxidants, which combat and even help reverse the adverse effects that time and the environment have on the skin.

Now, when used in facial creams and other skin solutions or treatments, the Coenzyme Q10 is processed in order to be able to penetrate through up to seven layers of skin, which renders it far more effective. Here are some of the main benefits that the Coenzyme Q10 has on the skin:

  • Decreasing wrinkles: It has been scientifically proven that the Coenzyme Q10 can have some very positive effects when it comes to wrinkle reduction. This is because this enzyme dramatically increases the production of collagen and elastin, which are two absolutely essential proteins, needed by the skin in order for it to become firmer and smoother.

  • Combats free radicals: Free radical are just about everywhere, and their negative effect over the skin can be quite adverse. This is why the Coenzyme Q10, with its abundance in antioxidants, is such an essential character when it comes to combat those free radicals in order to keep the skin looking healthier and younger.

  • Protection from UVA rays: One of the most harmful components of sunrays is the ultraviolet radiation. This radiation attacks the skin directly and depletes it from collagen and other necessary proteins that are essential to its growth and regeneration. And of the three UV radiation types, the one known as UVA is the one that actually harms the skin in a more pronounced way.

Thankfully, as we have seen above, the Coenzyme Q10 actually helps the skin renew just the nutrients that UVA rays destroy.
